Son of Frank Francis Roper and Mary Roper, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. His brother, Private Ernest Alfred Roper, who served with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada also died during the Second World War on July 21, 1944.

Location:

The War Cemetery lies in the locality of Montecchio in the Commune of Montelabbate (Province of Pesaro). It stands on rising ground just North of the main road from Pesaro to Urbino, about 12 kilometres west of Pesaro. If approaching by car, take the road 423 from Pesaro to Urbino, following the signs for Montecchio. Just before entering the town, the Cemetery will be seen on the right hand side of the road.

Albert also went by the name Bert and was the second youngest in his family of five. Some of Bert's interests included beekeeping, taxidermy, hunting and he liked nature. Bert joined the services on July 16, 1940 in Saskatoon and became part of the Saskatoon Light Infantry. Bert served as a trooper in the Canadian Armed Corps in Europe, specifically in Italy. Bert was killed in action on September 1, 1944 approximately six weeks after his younger brother Ernest's death in France. On August 5, 1954 the Government of Saskatchewan named a two mile long island on Daly Lake Roper Island in Honour and memory of Trooper Albert George Roper. Daly Lake is in the Foster Lake area of northern Saskatchewan, 220 miles north of Prince Albert.
