Book of Remembrance – City of London Book of Remembrance A poem by ER Davey was found inside a book of poetry of the Royal Air Force. It was published in 1944. Davey wrote a very moving poem and left the poem in his billet in his own handwriting. This is the poem: Almighty and all present power Short is the prayer I make to thee I do not ask in battle hour For any shield to cover me, The vast unalterable way From which the stars do not depart, May not be turned aside to stay The bullet flying to my heart, I ask no help to strike my foe I seek no petty victory here The enemy I hate I know To thee is dear, But this I pray, Be at my side When death is drawing thro the sky, Almighty Lord who also died, Teach me the way that I should die. Davey was killed on 02-10-1944 age 22 RCAF 404 sqn, He was the son of George James Davey & Selin Davey of London Ontario Buried at Banff Cemetery, He never returned home.....
