Location:

Amersfoort is a town lying 50 kilometres south-east of Amsterdam, and 22 kilometres north-east of Utrecht. The Amersfoort (Oud Leusden) General Cemetery is about 2.5 kilometres from the railway station, in an area known as Oud Leusden. The graves are in a special plot, well sited among trees.

  • Photo of Glen William– Taylor, Glenn William - Pilot Officer. Born 29th November, 1923, at Shelter Valley, Ont. Educated at Wicklow Public School and Cobourg Collegiate Institute. Entered the service of the Bank 8th September, 1941. Served at Cobourg, Ont. Enlisted 25th November, 1942, from that branch in R.C.A.F. Sergeant in September, 1943; Pilot Officer in June, 1944. Trained at Toronto, Souris, P.E.I., Trenton, Ont., and Macdonald, Man. Overseas in October, 1943. Served with 419 (Moose) Squadron from April, 1944. Took part in eight heavy raids on enemy territory. Killed in action following raid on Essen the night of 16/17th June, 1944. Buried at Amersfoort, Holland. His Wing Commander wrote: "He showed great determination in attacking the enemy, and became a very popular Squadron member whose services we can ill afford to lose." His Bomb Aimer wrote: "He was one of the best gunners in the Squadron and was thought a great deal of by his crew and all the others." From a memorial booklet prepared by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.
