Stephen (Skibinski) Kibbins was the son of John and Doris Skibinski, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father, John Skibinski, had served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. At birth he was named Stephen Skibinski. He died on April 26, 1942 in Vancouver and he is buried in the Vancouver's Mountain View Cemetery in the Military Section.
In 1933, he married Laura Kibbins (née Woods). During the Second World War he served with the 71 Bld Bty, Canadian Field Artillery. In civilian life, his occupation was a Plasterer and he lived in Vancouver, British Columbia.
He had ten brothers and sisters:
Nicholas (Nick) who served in Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. Nick changed his family name to Kibbins;
Stephen (Steve) who served in the Royal Canadian Artillery. Steve changed his family name to Kibbins;
Elsie May;
Alexander (Alec) Skibinski who served in the Winnipeg Grenadiers and was a POW in Hong Kong;
William (Bill) Skibinski who served in the PPCLI overseas;
Mary Matthes / Woods. Mary's second husband (Reg Woods) served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps.;
Victoria (Vicci) Blatherwick. Vicci's husband (Earl Blatherwick) served in the RCAF and was the longest serving Warrant Officer in the history of the RCAF.;
Michael (Mike) who served in Royal Canadian Artillery and was in the U.K., North Africa, Sicily (Wounded), Italy, Holland, and Germany. Mike changed his family name to Kibbins;
Alice Irene Olive Dalzell; and
Lorraine Jacqueline Brundrit.
