Son of Arthur William and Elizabeth May (nee Crooker) Hunter, of Armstrong, British Columbia. Brother of Russell, Cassie, Ernest, and Ivan.

Brother of Private Herbert Watkins Hunter who died on November 21, 1916, while serving with the Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment) and brother of Private Kenneth Lorne Hunter who died on October 1, 1918, while serving with the Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment).
