Location:

Chauny is a small industrial town in the department of the Aisne. It is situated about 7 kilometres south-west of La Fere on the Canal de St Quentin and the River Ouse, 24 kilometres south of St Quentin. The British Extension to the Communal Cemetery lies due north of the town of Chauny.

  • Southampton Cenotaph– Frederick James Carson was born in Southampton, Ontario on March 2nd, 1895. His mother, Mrs. James Carson, is listed on his attestation as his "next-of-kin". Prior to the war, Carson was a printer. His prior military experience included 3 years in the 32nd Bruce Regiment. He enlisted in the CEF on October 7th, 1915 in London, Ontario. He is remembered on the Southampton Cenotaph. This war memorial includes plaques with the names of men from World Wars 1 & 2. The WWI list is inscribed: "In grateful remembrance of the men of Southampton who fought and died in the Great War". Southampton is in Bruce County, Ontario and is the oldest port on the Bruce Coast. This photograph was taken by Mr. Clive Freeman in the summer of 2002.
