Son of Pierre Poirier and Marguerite Clavet, of Cullens Brook, Gaspésie, Quebec.
He had declared to be born on June 15, 1892 during his enlistment. He had also declared that he was married when he had in fact been a widower of Françoise Roy since 1913; she died two weeks after giving birth to their first child.

Loos (Loos-en-Gohelle) is a village to the north of the road from Lens to Bethune. From Lens, take the N43 towards Bethune. Arriving at Loos, turn right at CWGC sign post. The LOOS BRITISH CEMETERY is about 1 kilometre from Loos Church in the southern part of the village.
