Son of William Lorne and Margaret Belle (née Barron) of Armley, Saskatchewan. Husband of Evelyn Violet (née Moase) McCullough Combs, father of Gregory Lorne and Monica Kim. As a child, he attended Manlius Public School, and completed his high school at Tisdale Unit Composite School. He served in the Air Cadets for four years. He enjoyed playing softball, hardball, basketball and hockey. He earned his Pilot`s Badge on 12 February 1971.
