Son of Helmuth and Alice Seewald, Cst. Seewald was born in Germany and he came to Canada with his family when he was 3 years old. Cst. Seewald served in the Northwest Territories, in Nova Scotia and in Nunavut. He was known to family and friends as Ziggy and was known as a “gentle giant”. Cst. Seewald was a good swimmer and was a master scuba diver. He played basketball, racquetball, and was a hockey goalie. He also was a handyman at home and loved working in the garden with his wife. Cst. Seewald volunteered to serve as an RCMP Peacekeeper in Yugoslavia and was awarded the UN and Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medals. Further, he received a Commanding Officers Commendation for arresting a distraught armed man. He was married to Tanis and they had two children: Aaron and Carla.
