Well I, I thought very lightly of it. I thought it was more
of a joke. I thought it was a fight between two Kings, you know.
The Emperor was a, was safe in Germany and I believe England had
King George, was it, or was it King Edward. My memory is wrong.
Well, there was two kings on the throne and they... in fact,
they were all Kings at that time (inaudible).
There was no Hitler in them days.

Mr. Evans recalls his reaction to England's declaration of war on Germany in 1914.
Fred Evans
Fred Evans was born on August 15, 1897 in London, England. He moved to Montreal with his family in 1910, where his father was a baker. He had two brothers and five sisters. Mr. Evans was 101 years old when this interview was recorded with him in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1998.
