The, we went through the Canal, Suez, and we were halfway through the Canal when we got word that the first atomic bomb had dropped in Japan, I think it was about the 11th of August. And that was to change our routine, our whole pattern because we, we went down it was very hot in the, in the Red Sea, and across the Radiant Sea to Columbo, and we were in the Ceylon area for about a month, in Columbo for a week or two, and then in Trinkamalee on the west side, which was a protected harbour. And then we, instead of going to, there was a rumour that we were going to get involved in Burma, but that never transpired, the war was over and they didn't... Anyway we had, we, we escorted the, a troop ship, we had some of the army generals on board actually, that was headed for Hong Kong, it was to be the occupation force for Hong Kong. So we, we headed down the Malacca Strait and we were one of the first ships down, we glanced at Singapore and went up through just north of the equator, we didn't cross, and then up to Hong Kong.

Mr. Treherne returned to Canada after the war and continued his military career as a senior instructor at Naden Supply School. Mr. Treherne maintains a family history of his father's and grandfather's service lives. He is currently writing his memoirs of his navy service in the supply branch, and also serves as a member of the Council for Canadian Security in the 21st Century (CCS 21).
