La Gazette de Londres annonça que le commandant d'escadre John Francis Griffiths, un Canadien de la RAF, avait reçu la Croix du service distingué dans l'Aviation à l'égard des opérations aériennes auxquelles il avait participé durant la guerre. Le cmdtEre Griffiths fut décoré à l'égard des attaques lancées contre des navires de guerre allemands le 14 décembre 1939. Premier Canadien à mériter la DFC pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.

1684 G/C John Francis Griffiths DFC (RMC 1922) He served with the Royal Air Force. He awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for air operations during the war. W/C Griffiths was decorated for attacks on German warships on 14 December 1939. He was awarded the Czechoslovakian Military Cross and he was Mentioned in Despatches. He died on May 9, 1945. He was buried in the Hotton War Cemetery in Belgium.

CIMETIÈRE DE GUERRE D'HOTTON Belgique
Le CIMETIÈRE DE GUERRE D'HOTTON est situé à 58 km au sud-est de Namur. De Namur, la N4 mène à la ville de Marche-en-Famenne. À l'arrivée de Marche-en-Famenne, la N86 se dirige vers Hotton. Une fois à Hotton, le cimetière est situé à 500 mètres sur la N86 en allant vers Menil.
