Original (but incorrect) gravestone of William Muir Laughton in the Nelson British Columbia Cemetery. During the development of the Laughton Family Tree project this error was detected and the correct information was submitted to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Veterans Affairs Canada.
-
During the period from 2009 to 2011 while the new gravestone was being created, Chief Gerry Rempel (Castlegear Fire Department) undertook looking after the site on behalf of the Laughton family.
-
Veterans Affairs Canada looked after the construction and placement of the new stone with the corrections to William's WWII unit (Loyal Edmonton Regiment) rather than his WWI unit (2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles).
-
The new stone was placed in the Nelson B.C. cemetery in early November 2011, just in time for the Remembrance Day Services.
-
Gerry Rempel and his daughter Geri-Lynn Rempel returned to the cemetery on November 11, 2011 to welcome William's new head stone.
