Ce monument commémoratif marque le 100e anniversaire du Royal Canadian Regiment. 

L’origine du Royal Canadian Regiment remonte à la création de The Infantry School Corps (école du corps d’infanterie) le 21 décembre 1883, dont les trois premières compagnies étaient situées à Fredericton, au Nouveau?Brunswick; à St?Jean, au Québec; et à Toronto, en Ontario. Autorisée quelques années plus tard, une quatrième compagnie fut installée à London, en Ontario. Au cours des années qui ont suivi, l’école du corps d’infanterie a changé de nom plusieurs fois : le Canadian Regiment of Infantry en 1892, le Royal Regiment of Canadian Infantry en 1893 et le Royal Canadian Regiment of Infantry en 1899, avant d’adopter le nom de Royal Canadian Regiment en 1901.

The Royal Canadian Regiment Centennial

Gate was opened on 1 July 1983 as part

of the RCR Centennial Reunion held at

Wolseley Barracks on 30 June and 1,2

and 3 July 1983.

 

This gate is a replica of the Wellington

Barracks gate located in Halifax, Nova

Scotia which was built circa 1859.

Wellington Barracks is a past home of

The Royal Canadian Regiment and the gate

is better known as the RCR Gate.

 

This gate was constructed by

CFB London Construction Engineering Branch
