I mean I felt I should do something to let him know so he didn't speak to me again, we just kept. I thought he was going to have a heart attack you know. I mean the Germans were so mad that they wouldn't believe that he didn't know that I was; if they ever found out I was a Canadian airman. I didn't do it in... so that the German who was walking back and forth would know about it so anyways he, so about I guess it was about 11 o'clock we stopped and then he then they said, then they said ‘line up'. So they lined up, lined us all up. Oh I was scared to death. I was, I don't know, I guess I was scared that they were gonna find out who I was and they were gonna shoot the whole 40. That was my initial feeling. However as far as I'm, well it was just fate, you see. Anyways they pulled out the two that they had beaten up the night before and they just shot them in front of us, lined them, put them out on the field and shot them in front of us. The bodies just fell into the graves there and then they turned to us and said, "You can go, you're free to go."
