And I had an uncle, George, who was in the air force, and I always thought his life was pretty interesting and I thought, "Wouldn't that be nice if I could do something like that". But in those days, the only women who were allowed in the armed forces were nurses and so I really, I suppose with that in the back of my mind, I went into training with the idea that, as a means to an end because I thought military life would be interesting. So that's what I did, and as soon as I finished my three years and graduated and wrote my RN exams, I applied for the air force. And after six months they finally took me. They were making people wait about a year, but I was nagging them a lot, so they took me to shut me up I suppose.
