Realization for being at War

We landed in Greenwich, Scotland and they were, ladies I guess from the church, those hot scones and tea, I always remember that. And then of course we were hustled down to Southern England and I was at No. 9 Horsham and I do remember when we got farther farther south I suddenly realized there was a war on and saw the devastation and then passing through London was a terrible experience because the barrage balloons were still up for the bombers, you know. The city air was full of barrage balloons and we suddenly realized we were in a different world.
