He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, 104 Sqdn. He died on December 17, 1942 at 25 years of age. His name is listed on the Malta Memorial in Floriana Malta.

On December 17, 1942, when serving from Malta with 104 Squadron, a Wellington bomber unit, Flying Officer Richard Leslie's aircraft failed to return from operations. Other members of the crew killed were Flying Officer George Cochrane Silver R.C.A.F., Sergeant Leonard Booth R.A.F. and Sergeant Herbert George Lines D.F.M., R.A.F. Their names are listed on the Malta Memorial in Floriana Malta.

MONUMENT COMMÉMORATIF DE MALTE Malte
Le MONUMENT COMMÉMORATIF DE MALTE est situé dans la région de Floriana et on l'aperçoit facilement en raison de l'aigle d'or qui surmonte la colonne. Il se trouve à l'extérieur de la King's Gate, l'entrée principale de La Valette.
Le monument revêt la forme d'une colonne de quinze mètres de haut constituée de marbre de travertin de Tivoli dans les monts Sabins près de Rome. Il est gravé d'un léger motif réticulé et est surmonté d'un aigle de bronze doré de deux mètres de haut. La colonne repose sur une base circulaire sur laquelle les noms sont inscrits sur des plaques de bronze.
Le MONUMENT COMMÉMORATIF DE MALTE, érigé sur un emplacement généreusement offert par le gouvernement de Malte, rappelle le souvenir de ceux qui ont perdu leur vie pendant qu'ils servaient dans les Forces aériennes du Commonwealth basées en Autriche, en Italie, en Sicile, dans les îles de l'Adriatique et de la Méditerranée, à Malte, en Tunisie, en Algérie, au Maroc, en Afrique de l'Ouest, en Yugoslavie et dans le Gibraltar et qui ne possèdent pas de tombe connue.
La bravoure des gens de l'île de Malte entre les années 1940 - 1942 a été honorée par l'unique distinction de la Croix de George.
