Soldat Gordon Augustus Comeau
Augustus 'Gordon' Comeau was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Dennis and Margaret Comeau. Uncle Gordon was the second youngest of 13 children and had 7 brothers, 6 of whom also served in WWII. His brother, Dennis "Edward" Comeau was killed October 25, 1944 at the age of 33 and is buried in the Schoonselhof Cemetery, Belgium. A War Memorial had been erected in Yarmouth after WWI. A few years after the close of WWII, four plaques were added to the base with the names of the soldiers from Yarmouth who were killed. Gordon's mother was chosen to unveil those plaques.

Paratrooper Gordon Comeau, son of Mrs. Dennis Comeau and the late Mr. Comeau of Yarmouth
South, who was killed instantly in action according to word received by his mother. He was 21 years old and had been overseas a year. He has six brothers in the services, Sgt. James and Gnr. Adelbert, Nfld.; Trooper Edward, Camp Borden; Cpl. Henry, Debert; Cpl. Alfred, France; Sgt. Fred, Italy;;,also one brother at home. Thr'ee sisters also survive: Mrs. G. Deveau,
Yarmouth; Mrs. E. Deveau, Hectanooga and Mrs. J. Robicheau, St. Martin.

This is a post card that Private Gordon Augustus COMEAU sent to his mother while training at Ft. Benning, GA. Private G.A. COMEAU wrote on the back that it was his first jump.

A silver plaque that my great-grandmother received from the Canadian Covernment. The plaque reads "PTE. G.A.COMEAU I CDN. PARA. DN. DIED IN HIS COUNTRY'S SERVICE 10 JUNE 1944"
