Ce monument commémoratif est dédié par la population de Beautiful Plains et les habitants de Neepawa à la mémoire des soldats qui servirent pendant les deux guerres mondiales et la guerre de Corée.

En 1920, la firme canadienne William A. Rogers Limited Company publia un catalogue répertoriant des modèles de monuments commémoratifs, dont celui d’un soldat surdimensionné vêtu d’une capote. Selon le catalogue, cette firme fut, à l’époque, la seule fonderie de bronze au Canada qui eût réussi à produire un modèle de cette taille. La statue est un moulage fait à partir d’un modèle de Nicolas Pirroton, un sculpteur de Saint?Boniface.
