Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs (ACVA)

In May 2021, ACVA tabled its 6th report of the 43rd Parliament, The Consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Financial Health of Veterans' Organizations. The report looked at the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the ability of non-profit Veterans’ organizations to generate sufficient revenue to continue their operations and offered nine recommendations on ways the Government could provide increased support.

In June 2021, ACVA tabled its 7th report of the 43rd Parliament, Caregivers: Taking Care of Those Who Care for Veterans. The report looked at the role of caregivers and family in support of Veterans and offered six recommendations on ways the Government could work to ensure that spouses and dependent children of Veterans are supported and able to access Veterans Affairs’ programs, including financial support and mental health services, in their own right.

  • Report 7 - Caregivers: Taking Care of Those Who Care for Veterans was presented in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 15 June 2021.
    • A Government Response was requested, however the dissolution of the House of Commons on 15 August 2021 for the federal general election ended all parliamentary business, including all pending requests for responses to committee reports.

In March 2022, ACVA tabled its 1st report of the 44th Parliament, Moving Towards Ending Homelessness Among Veterans. The report looked at the extent and nature of Veteran homelessness in Canada and offered ten recommendations aimed at ensuring Veterans at risk of homelessness receive the support they need. The report was a re-adoption of an identical report from 2019, entitled Report 12 - Moving Towards Ending Homelessness Among Veterans, which was originally presented to the House of Commons on 1 May 2019. A Government Response had been requested at that time, but the dissolution of the House of Commons on 11 September 2019 for the federal general election ended all parliamentary business, including all pending requests for responses to committee reports.
