    The National Veterans Employment Strategy - Strategic Objectives

    Objective 1. Improving Services and Expanding Programs for Veterans

    Timeline: In progress:

    1. Accreditation, licenses, recognition of skills

    • Continue to work with others to recognize the accreditation of military occupations with their civilian equivalents. This includes areas such as healthcare licenses, skilled trades certifications, and maritime and aviation transport qualifications.

    2. Recognize Veteran-ready employers

    • Recognize the efforts of employers that hire, train and retain Veterans by providing them with a “Veteran Ready” seal for use on their websites and promotional products.

    3. Peer mentorship networks

    • Expand and promote the existing Veteran peer mentoring networks that connect Veterans with careers in the civilian labour market.

    4. National resource directory

    • A directory of employment support services that are available to community-based organizations, and use this information to address gaps in services.

    5. Build partnerships

    • Continue to work with non-government organizations and not-for-profit organizations that offer programs related to Veteran employment to share information, align activities and identify opportunities to collaborate.

    6. Career transition services

    • Create promotional materials to increase awareness of services available through Career Transition Services in the areas of career coaching, learning modules and job development.

    7. New resource material

    • Collaborate with Military Family Services to create resource materials that better prepare Veterans to enter the civilian workforce.
    • Further promote public service employment opportunities for RCMP members who are discharged for medical reasons.

    8. Veterans employment webinars

    • Host quarterly webinars that highlight job opportunities from companies interested in hiring Veterans. Companies to present a range of opportunities to meet the needs of diverse and equity deserving Veteran populations.

    9. Education initiatives

    • Expand awareness of educational programs for available to Veterans and serving CAF members, including the Education and Training Benefit and the High School Initiative.

    Timeline upcoming - Summer 2024:

    10. Job Bank for Veterans

    • Work with the Department of Employment, and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to improve the Job Bank for Veterans online platform.

    11. Skills translation Resources

    • Enhance existing digital skills translation tools in order to better help Veterans and employers understand transferable military expertise and competencies.

    12. Hire a Veteran Day – 25 July 2024

    • Promote “Hire a Veteran Day” to encourage Canadian businesses to hire Veterans and serving CAF Reservists.

    Timeline upcoming - Winter 2025:

    13. New research

    • Develop a research study to review and analyze policies related to the employment needs of equity-deserving groups, including women, 2SLGBTQI+ and Indigenous Veterans, to better understand the barriers they face.

    14. New digital resource hub

    • Work with partners to create a digital “one-stop shop” resource hub that will contain information and tools to support Veterans, employers and partner organizations.

    15. RCMP Veterans

    • Determine opportunities to better support RCMP Veterans who need career transition resources.

    Timeline upcoming - Spring 2025:

    16. Veteran employer forum

    • Organize a Veteran Employer Forum to bring together Veteran Ready employers, and aspiring Veteran Ready employers to exchange best practices, foster collaboration and engage with other stakeholders.

    17. Veteran entrepreneurship

    • Explore avenues for entrepreneurship, including partnering with more organizations, creating resources for Veterans and increasing awareness of the support available to Veterans who want to start their own businesses.

    Timeline upcoming - Summer 2025:

    18. Community of practice

    • Launch a Government of Canada Community of Practice focused on Veteran employment in the federal public service.

    19. Appoint Deputy Minister Champion

    • Designate a Deputy Minister Champion to advocate and lead efforts in close collaboration with VAC and DND.

    20. Public Service employment

    • Develop new resources and showcase existing materials to build awareness among CAF members and Veterans of job opportunities in the federal public service, federal agencies and Crown Corporations.
    • Establish a hiring target in order to increase the number of Veterans working at Veterans Affairs Canada. This target will be reported annually to the Minister.
