Peterborough, Ontario
Alan Montgomery Wilson’s remarkable contributions to the Veteran community began with his volunteer work as an honorary member of the Air Force Association of Canada from 2008 to 2015, and as part of the Peterborough chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP) since 2002. He served as co-chair of the Veterans Advisory Committee to the MP for Peterborough from 2002 to 2014.
As chair, Alan played a pivotal role in reversing RCMP policies, ensuring candidates received formal wages during training, and advocating for legislative changes that provided preferential hiring for Canadian Armed Forces Veterans in the public service.
Alan has also led efforts to establish community monuments, including the restoration of the Sabre-Jet Memorial at Riverview Park and Zoo, securing over $100,000 in funding. He was instrumental in creating a Canadian Peacekeepers monument in Peterborough, lobbying all levels of government for support.
In response to the loss of six local soldiers in Afghanistan, Alan organized a Heroes Tribute Gala, securing corporate sponsorships and raising over $19,000 for educational scholarships for the fallen soldiers’ families. Described as a bold advocate and community icon, Alan dedicates countless hours to honor Veterans and support their families.
