Arden Braun (Posthumous)

Mr. Braun’s Commendation was accepted by his daughter Deanna McLellan. Mr. Braun was a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran with a decades’ long-passion for advocating and volunteering on behalf of Veterans, initially in Bowmanville, Ontario and later in New Brunswick. Mr. Braun was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL), and dedicated 25 years in service to Branch 59 in Millville. He served on the Executive as president and service officer, as well as a member on most committees. Together with wife, Carolyn, Mr. Braun was instrumental in ensuring that local Veterans were duly recognized for their volunteer and military service. The Brauns accomplished this by going out of their way to ensure that Veterans were made aware, in attendance and recognized at Veterans’ Appreciation Day, through Honours & Awards and other annual commemorative events. In addition to his service with the RCL, Mr. Braun was also a committed volunteer with the Millville Area Veterans’ Memorial Committee. He dedicated countless hours helping to research the names of more than 300 local Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First and Second World Wars, Korean War and Peacekeeping missions. Honouring their memory and service, this work led to these Veterans’ names being inscribed on two stones, which were added to and placed on either side of the existing memorial stone in Millville’s Veterans’ Memorial Park and unveiled in 2004. In recognition of his upstanding history of selfless service to Veterans and the Veteran Community, he was awarded the RCL’s highest honour, the Meritorious Service Award in 2008.
