A Merchant Navy Veteran of the Second World War, and a recipient of the Order of Canada, Mr. Ferlatte served five years as the President of the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans Association. In this capacity, Mr. Ferlatte tirelessly assisted veterans and widows with their benefit entitlements. Mr. Ferlatte was one of the signatories to a consensus reached in 1995 by five veterans' organizations representing Merchant Navy Veterans, on a special benefit package provided to members of the Merchant Navy by the Government of Canada. In addition, his experience and expertise proved invaluable as an advisor to the Veterans Affairs Review Committee, which was the final review level for the benefit package. Mr. Ferlatte made a significant contribution to ensuring that all eligible Merchant Navy Veterans and their surviving spouses received the special benefit.
