Lieutenant-Commander (Retired) Donna Lynn Murakami, CD, is a distinguished Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and an active member of the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS), the Nursing Sisters Association of Toronto and the Fort York Branch Legion. Notably, she made history as the first female president of the Legion branch in 85 years, serving from 2015 and welcoming 59 new members during her tenure. Her fundraising initiatives resulted in vital purchases, including an organ for the Veterans’ Chapel at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Donna spearheaded a letter campaign that achieved an impressive 80% increase in donors, significantly boosting contributions to the Poppy Trust Fund, which aids Veterans through the Comfort Fund Committee. She has dedicated herself to enhancing the health and welfare of Veterans at Sunnybrook and has continued to support the branch as a Membership Secretary and Event Coordinator.
>A longstanding member of the Nursing Sisters Association, Donna has also served as its Membership Secretary and Treasurer, growing the operating account significantly. At the WRCNS's 75th anniversary, she compiled a book of personal stories and memories from women, fostering a sense of community. Her commitment to supporting wartime women members, including transportation and assistance, showcases her unwavering dedication to Veterans.
