Dorothy Phoenix

Mrs. Phoenix is a Veteran of the Second World War where she served as part of Bomber Command in Great Britain. In 1966, she became a member of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS). She is an active member of her ANAVETS Branch Unit and she has served in a number of executive positions. She visits Veterans at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital and parades in Veterans' Week celebrations as part of the unit's Colour Party. Mrs. Phoenix was the first female member of the Dominion Civil Service War Veterans Association Branch #2 where she later became President and is now a trustee. She assists Veterans and their families on how and where they can obtain information on pension claims. She has participated in barbeques, bingo games, and Christmas functions at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital. Mrs. Phoenix volunteered in the running of Camp Maple Leaf located in the Kawartha Lakes area and would set aside one week during the camp to bring in Veterans so that they could engage with the campers.
