Elio John (Rosie) Rosati (Posthumous)

Weston, Ontario

Mr. Rosati was a Veteran of the Second World War whose tour of operations included Burma. When the war ended in 1945, he remained in Britain, working for a Commonwealth War Graves unit, searching out final resting places of downed fellow airmen and fallen soldiers. Upon his return to Canada, Mr. Rosati wanted to continue the relationships among Burma Veterans, and became one of the founders of the 435-436 Burma Squadrons Association, an association that is still active 64 years later. Mr. Rosati created the Pukkha Gen, a newsletter for Veterans of 435 and 436 RCAF Squadrons. The newsletter is distributed quarterly with each edition including personal letters and stories from Veterans as well as information on annual reunions. Veterans look forward to receiving these newsletters, which have helped to keep the 435-436 Burma Squadrons Association vital and alive. For many years, Mr. Rosati and his wife, Jackie, helped get families involved in the Association's annual reunions in Canada and around the world. As well, Mr. Rosati took every possible opportunity to speak in public about the prominent role Canadians played in the Burma campaign. In addition to his volunteerism within the Burma Squadrons Association, Mr. Rosati was deeply involved with the Italian-Canadian community.
