Eugene Michaud

Alymer, Quebec

A former Peacekeeper with the Canadian Forces in Egypt, Mr. Michaud presently teaches History and Arts at Notre Dame High School in Ottawa. Very early on, Mr. Michaud recognized the need to educate young Canadians on the importance of keeping the memory of the sacrifice of Veterans and peacekeepers alive. He has enriched the curriculum of high school students in matters relating to Canada's military history as well as the role played by Canadian peacekeepers around the globe. During the summer months, Mr. Michaud conducts the re-enactment of key military battles, bringing Canadian history alive, thereby promoting a better understanding and appreciation of Canada's military role in the world. In addition to his summer programs, Mr. Michaud organizes and directs the Remembrance Day program at Notre Dame High School.

Over the years, Mr. Michaud has contributed in an exemplary manner to the remembrance of Canadian Veterans' contribution, sacrifices and achievements. His success can best be understood by the extent of the respect he has earned from the people whose lives he has touched, Veterans, students, colleagues and guests alike.

Mr. Michaud's work in the area of military history and Remembrance Day represents his commitment to Canada and its Veterans, and serves as an outstanding example of public service.
