Gérard LeBlanc

Moncton, New Brunswick

Gérard LeBlanc has spent more than two decades commemorating Veterans through his involvement with the Société d’histoire de Memramcook Inc. and the Vétérans de Memramcook Veterans.

From 2002 to 2018, Gérard sat on the Board of Directors for the Société d’histoire de Memramcook Inc. and was Vice-President from 2007 to 2012. He is still a member and strong contributor to the organizations’ projects. He has also been a part of Vétérans de Memramcook Veterans for over 25 years. This unregistered group has no formal members but encompasses, by default, all past and current military/RCMP members originally from or currently residing in Memramcook. This entity replaced the Legion Branch 89 when it closed in the late 1990’s. Gérard has also helped with the Anciens combattants Memramcook Veterans Facebook group for the last year and a half.

Since 2008, Gérard has written more than 150 articles that have been published in the Memramcook Historical Society’s booklet, which is printed and distributed bi-annually. He is not only a member of the Society, but also the Editor-in-Chief of the booklet. Gérard conducts research on individuals from Memramcook who had served and died in the First and Second World Wars. His articles directly recognize the fallen heroes of Memramcook and help to ensure they are never forgotten. He has dedicated hundreds of hours to this endeavor over the years. His research has been instrumental in the efforts to update the Memramcook cenotaph. In November 2022, 14 names were added. Gérard also spent over 40 hours conducting more research for another project that involved updating information for memorial stones located at the Memramcook Veteran Park. He tracked down more than two dozen obituaries to obtain the information needed to update the stones. His research once again directly benefited the remembrance of Veterans.

During the Spring of 2023, Gérard again spent hours researching the names of many First World War, Second World War and Korean War Veterans listed on the Memramcook Historical Society’s webpage. The list of names was in need of updates and corrections which Gérard happily volunteered to do.
