Mr. Earl Giffin is a Second World War Veteran and a 60-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion, having served in the roles of President and Legion Zone Commander. A Legion Branch Service Officer for over a decade, he was responsible for helping Veterans access Veterans Affairs Canada services, transporting those with limited mobility to medical appointments, getting Veterans the financial aid they need, and conducting the Legion Tribute at funerals.
Although retired, he has helped the incumbent Legion Branch Service Officer in Vegreville by helping to find and organize Legion members to attend funeral or memorial services and serve as Guard of Honour.
Mr. Giffin participated in the annual Poppy Campaign by selling wreaths and attending special events. He also performed flag duties at the community Canada Day celebration, assisted in cemetery preparations for the Legion Decoration Day service, attended school Remembrance Day services, and delivered Christmas comfort packages to Veterans and widows over the holidays.
Mr. Giffin is known by name in his home community of Vegreville and never hesitated to be a voice of Veterans by speaking to local media and schools about his memories of service during the war. He is an asset in keeping the history of Canada’s service and sacrifice alive for future generations.
