Honourary Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Perron is a 19 year Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. She is nominated for her service with the Memory Project, the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre and with Transition LifeshopsTM.
She has been with the Memory Project for ten years. She visits schools and shares her story of serving in the military. Somewhat unique, she communicates with students about women Veterans who served in non-traditional military roles. While visiting schools, she has asked students to create drawings for Veterans at the Perley to thank them for their service.
She sits on the board of directors with the Perley and is an “avid volunteer.” She will sometimes bring her dog along to visit the Veterans and for two years, she has organized a High Tea to celebrate International Women’s Day, during which, she highlights the contributions of women.
She also runs a series of non-profit workshops for women Veterans and women military spouses. The workshops are free and are aimed to prepare Veterans, and spouses, for life after the military and to enable them to “embrace transitions.”
In April 2017, she donated all proceeds from her book launch to “Solider On” and “Support Our Troops.”
