Jack Wilcox

Kars, Ontario

A Veteran of the Second World War and later a journalist, Mr. Wilcox has devoted much time to writing stories and essays on the achievements of the Canadian military for leading Canadian newspapers. Through journalism, he has contributed much to raising awareness of Canadian history and heritage.

Mr. Wilcox assisted in the preparation of a booklet, "Merrickville Remembers," featruring biographies of local heroes who died in Canada's three major wars of the 20th century. Mr. Wilcox offers his volunteer services to other communities and organizations interested in producing similar histories. He has also assisted in the production of the memorial book of Sydney Academy, honouring those Cape Breton students who gave their lives in the Second World War. Mr Wilcox was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Ontario Command of The Royal Canadian Legion for his work on the Sydney book. Along with three other members of the Merrickville Memorial Committee, he was awarded "The Heritage Award of Merit" by the regional Historical Society for his participation in the "Merrickville Remembers" project.

Mr. Wilcox has contributed in an exemplary manner to the remembrance of the contributions and sacrifice of Veterans, and his work stands as a lasting tribute to their achievements.
