Jean-Paul Bertrand

Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur, Quebec

Mr. Bertrand is a Second World War Veteran. He is a member of Branch 79 of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he served as the sergeant-at-arms for three years. He is also a member of a special committee responsible for developing ways to better serve Veterans and increase their visibility in the community. Mr. Bertrand gives presentations about Veterans from the Second World War and has been contacted by the Director of Remembrance, History, and Archives of the Department of National Defence to speak about medals and his experiences during the Second World War. Mr. Bertrand is dedicated to ensuring Veterans are remembered. He drives new Canadian Armed Forces recruits to the Cimetière du Souvenir in Pointe-Claire to speak to them about remembrance, Veterans, Canada’s participation in war, and the Wall of Remembrance. He also assists the Saint Jean Garrison with graduation parades and Remembrance Day ceremonies. During Veterans’ Week, Mr. Bertrand visits the cenotaph and schools, and is active in the Poppy Campaign.
