Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) Frank Egan is nominated for his volunteer work and involvement in Project ‘44.
Over the past 2 years, LCol Egan has been a valuable member of the team that helped put together Project’ 44, the largest database of unit positions from the Battle of Normandy. As part of the first phase of the project, LCol Egan completed the final formatting and proofreading of 51 unit narratives (war diaries) of Canadian units involved in operations from 6 June to 31 August, 1944. In the second phase he took on the same task for the 118 units, identified by Project’ 44, who took part in the liberation campaign after the Normandy campaign had concluded. This involved converting and proofreading over 1 million words from scanned documents to text format.
He played a major role in creating a project dedicated to the sacrifices and service of Canadians who served during the Second World War. As a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, LCol Egan continues to provide a commendable and invaluable role in service to the Veterans of the community.
