Miller, Daniel J

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Daniel J. Miller has been an active force within the Veteran community for over a decade as a main organizer for the Battle of Britain ceremony in Charlottetown, and as a member of the 201 Confederation Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association (RCAFA) and the RCAF Association Trust Fund (Atlantic Group).

Since 2009, Dan has been a leader in the RCAFA, 201 (Confederation) wing, Charlottetown. He joined the association after his retirement from a successful career in the Canadian Armed Forces and has been actively raising funds with the association for different charities in the Charlottetown area for over 14 years. As part of his involvement with the RCAFA, Dan has also acted as master of ceremonies for various events such as the Veterans parade during Remembrance Day, 2017. This is traditionally a very hard role to fill. He also takes on the role annually of organizing the Battle of Britain ceremony at the Sherwood cemetery in Charlottetown. Dan takes on the responsibility of invitations and guests management, coordination with the local Air Force cadets, setting-up for the ceremony itself and acting as master of ceremony. As part of 201 wing, Dan also organizes Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Mount Continuing Care Community to ensure its community members have an opportunity to remember. In addition to those roles, Dan also organizes barbeques and golf socials during the summer for all members.

In 2021, Dan and his wife created a large detailed memorial display outside their home. The memorial display depicted three members of the Canadian Armed Forces, one each from the Army, Navy and the Air Force, two dogs and a child set in front of a picturesque background, and included a memorial wreath and Canadian flags. Prior to the pandemic, the exhibit was usually on display in front of a business in Charlottetown. They used their personal home to continue on with this tradition of sharing these important stories.

Along with honoring Veterans and supporting his community through his work with the RCAFA, Dan is also active in the community through his involvement with the Knights of Columbus and Habitat for Humanity. He is the recipient of several distinguished awards such as the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal and a Member of The Order of Military Merit.
