Montréal-Est, Quebec
Mr. Jean-Pierre Lefort is a veteran and currently president of branch 308 in Montreal of the Army, Navy and Air Force Air Force Veterans Association. He has held nearly every position in the Unit and strives to help make life more enjoyable and comfortable for its Veteran members by organizing dances, dart games, bingo and other events. In 2004, he was elected unit Vice President. He then took charge of the Poppy Committee on behalf of the local The Royal Canadian Legion branch, which he continues to support today. In 2006, he was placed in charge of commemorations and organized the parade and other activities for Remembrance Day at the Montréal-East cenotaph. He arranged for the participation of members of The Royal Canadian Legion and, thanks to his popularity among the cadet corps in the community, was able to count on some 200 to 300 cadets taking part in the Remembrance Day parade.
In 2010, he was elected President of his Unit, an acknowledgment of the interest and love he shows for Veterans and Unit members. To promote awareness of the Unit and its Veterans, Mr. Lefort stepped up his participation in the community organizations around him, such as Montréal minor hockey and the Royal Canadian Aviation Cadet Corps 96 Alouettes. He is involved with No. 4 (Maisonneuve) Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, attending the summer camp each year to present the ANAVETS medal to the winning cadet.
Despite all the demands and complications that may arise in fielding Veterans’ questions on various issues, he does not hesitate to become engaged and seek advice to better assist them.
