Mr. Robert Gauthier is a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran. His military career began on February 12, 1951, as a Trooper, when he joined his four brothers in the Régiment de Trois-Rivières. He was promoted lieutenant colonel on September 1st 1974 and took command of the Regiment where he stayed until September 1977. At the request of the Commanding Officer of District No. 3, he came out of retirement in 1979 and became the Commanding Officer of 62nd Field Artillery Regiment in Shawinigan until 1984.
In addition to his military and civilian career, Mr. Gauthier has made an outstanding contribution to the well-being of Veterans. He was Liaison Officer for more than 52 years for Veterans of the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada. He was in constant communication with Veterans, while always being there to support them. As a volunteer from 2005 to 2008, Colonel Gauthier held the position of Director General of the Regiment’s museum where he volunteered until 2016. As part of “12th RBC Remembers,” he raised funds to acquire stained glass for the 14 windows above the Regiment’s memorial, illustrating the provinces, the territories and the Regiment’s badges, with background glass based on the Regimental Colours and decorated with poppies.
Mr. Gauthier is a lifetime member of the Regimental Association and a longtime member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35, where he continues to take part in various activities and serve his fellow Veterans.
