Réjean Normand

Rivière-à-Claude, Quebec

Réjean Normand is the Mayor of Rivière-à-Claude and is nominated for his work in establishing a commemorative park in his community.

He has been very active promoting remembrance since 1982. At that time, his children were getting involved with the Cadets and he was inspired to become more involved with remembrance. He has made sure Remembrance Day receives the attention it deserves in his town and by his constituents.

In 2018, at the request of Veterans UN NATO Canada in Gaspésie, he was named Chair of the Parc de la Paix Committee, charged with planning and organizing the construction of the park to honour Afghanistan Veterans in Rivière-à-Claude. He was a main fundraiser, contacting potential donors to explain the project to ensure there was adequate resources for the park. His leadership ensured Parc de la Paix was a success that will be a lasting symbol of remembrance.

He received the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal in 1993, the Lieutenant Governor’s Seniors’ Medal and the Canada 150 pin in 2018 for his volunteer work.
