Thomas Cane

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Mr. Cane is a Veteran of the Second World War. At the age of 85, he continues to be a tireless volunteer for his fellow Veterans and community. Mr. Cane is an active and long standing member of The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL). He ensures that all commemorative events requiring a colour party are looked after in a professional manner and there have been 102 such events since 2003. Mr. Cane is still active in the Poppy Campaign and visits schools to offer students his personal account of wartime service. Mr. Cane is responsible for all provincial parades for Nova Scotia and has been Sergeant at Arms for Zone 14 of the RCL. He has also been Sergeant at-Arms for the Camp Hill Hospital Candlelight Ceremony for the past 12 years and is Sergeant at Arms of the annual Second World War Church Service. Mr. Cane attends weekly council meetings at Camp Hill Hospital assisting fellow Veterans. In 2010, Mr. Cane was asked to form a colour party during the Change of Maritime Command event and as well he was part of the Honour Guard.
