Val Rimer

Mr. Rimer served in the European Theatre and Italian Campaign during the Second World War with the Lord Strathcona Horse Royal Canadians, a Tank Regiment. Over his career Mr. Rimer has been a long-standing member of The Royal Canadian Legion and the Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadians Association. For 15 years he was a Post Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of Canada in Calgary and has served as an Executive Member of the National Jewish War Veterans of Canada. As Post Commander, Mr. Rimer has been involved in numerous community initiatives devoted to the care and support of Veterans.

Mr. Rimer was a committee member of a liaison group that was consulted with respect to the building, programming and transitioning of the new Carewest Colonel Belcher, a Veterans hospital facility. He continues his interest with the facility as one of the founding members of the current Friends of Colonel Belcher. Mr. Rimer participated in the establishment and founding of the Museum of the Regiments in Calgary which is Canada's second largest military museum. He has also co-written a book entitled "Memories on the March," which is about true stories of Jewish War Veterans from Southern Alberta who served in the military. As part of the Memory Project sponsored by Veterans Affairs, Mr. Rimer speaks to many school groups about World War II. A modest man, Mr. Rimer is well-known and well-respected in the community for his many charitable works.
