William Black

Mr. Black is a long-time member of the Korea Veterans Association and is the President of National Capital Unit 7 in Ottawa. For the past several years, Mr. Black has been heavily involved in commemorative ceremonies at the Korea Veterans Monument and the National War Memorial where he often represents Veterans of the Korean War and lays a wreath on behalf of the Association. One of the signature events which Mr. Black originated in Ottawa is the “Turn to Busan” ceremony. The ceremony takes place on the eve of Remembrance Day and is timed to coincide with the Remembrance Day ceremony in Busan, Korea. Mr. Black is also an active and longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion and works closely with service officers ensuring Veterans receive the benefits and services to which they are entitled. He has assisted comrades in obtaining medals. Mr. Black also works closely with the staff of the South Korean Embassy with regards to events pertaining to Veterans, such as the "Little Angels" from South Korea show that was held at the National Arts Centre in 2010. Mr. Black is a member of the HMCS Huron Association which consists of Second World War and Korea Veterans who sailed on that ship, a member of the Naval Officers Association of Canada, and a member of the Naval Officer's Mess of HMCS Bytown.
