Winston (Charlie) Childs

Mr. Childs is Canadian Forces captain who retired in 1995 after 34 years of service. He was the Army Cadet liaison officer in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in his last year with the Canadian Forces. While there, he co-authored a book detailing the history of the Army Cadets in Newfoundland. In 1996, Mr. Childs became an active member of Canadian Legion and has held several positions on the Executive including secretary and project officer. As a member of the Executive, he helped form the West Coast Chapter of the Peacekeepers’ Association. Mr. Childs also served three years as treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee, two years as 2nd vice-president, and he is currently serving as Chair of the Finance Committee. He served four years as president of the Federal Retirees National Organization and increased membership from 300 to more than 600. Mr. Childs continues to advocate on behalf of local Veterans and seniors’ issues.
