(All ages)

What are acts of kindness? They are actions we take to spread kindness and joy to someone else. Every small act of kindness can make a difference to someone in your community or the world. We can be good neighbours by being active as a class. Brainstorm something you could all do together.
Activities for younger students should concentrate on making a difference locally (i.e., at school or at home). Older students should be encouraged to think broadly and may select an activity with local, community, national or even international benefits.
Here are a few ideas:
Be thankful
One great way to be a good neighbour is to always say please and thank you. How about thanking Canada’s Veterans?
- Make Valentines for Vets.
- Order free Veteran recognition cards and use them to say thank you to Veterans in your community.
- Invite a Veteran guest speaker to tell your class about how they have been a good neighbour through their service in Canada or around the world. Be sure to tell them thank you!
- Attend a Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11 or organize your own ceremony!
Be generous
Support a cause that will help someone in your community.
- Bring in canned foods to your classroom and make a donation to your local food bank or soup kitchen for people in need.
- Hold a school fair and sell tickets. Donate the money you make to a local charity.
- Participate in the Terry Fox run to raise money for cancer research in your community.
Be helpful
There is always something to be done in your neighbourhood or at home. How can you be helpful?
- Clean up litter in your school yard and neighbourhood
- Make a sign for your school reminding students to be kind.
- Make coupons for free raking or shoveling to drop in neighbours’ mailboxes.
- Host a community event and showcase. Welcome members of your community and show them some of the great projects you and your classmates have been working on.
- Plant trees or flowers to brighten up your local park.
- Visit residents living in a long-term care facility.
