  • Original gravemarker of James Learmonth– The original grave marker for Corporal James LEARMONTH. His regimental number and date of death are inscribed upon the base of this cross and visible upon enlarging this photograph. Corporal James Learmonth and Sgt. William John Walkey died on the same day and were buried side-by-side. Graves such as these were often decorated by their comrades and photographed to send back to their relatives. This grave marker would have been replaced by a permanent stone marker by the CWGC a few years later.
