Son of Rosario and Aldena (née Paquette) Bélanger of Brownsburg, Québec. Brother of Hélène, Jocelyne and Hugette. Pte Bélanger attended Brownsburg Primary and Secondary Schools. He played the trumpet and had just joined a band when he was called up for service. He loved jazz. He was single and a journalist.
From the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders of Canada), he was transferred to the Royal 22e Régiment on 28 May 1944 and took part in the capture of Rome, Italy. He fought at Frositone, the crossing of the Foglia River, the Gothic Line, Corca, Borgo Santa Maria, the Rimini Line, San Martino, San Lorenzo. He was killed in action at San Fortunato on 20 September 1944. He was buried in Lorenzo cemetery 2 miles north of Coriano, Italy. He had 815 days' service, 390 of which were overseas.

CORIANO RIDGE WAR CEMETERY is 3.5 kilometres west of Riccione, a seaside resort on the Adriatic coast, and is reached by turning west off the main Rimini/Riccione road about 1 kilometre north-west of Riccione. In the town of Riccione is a sign leading to the Coriano Ridge War Cemetery. Carry on in the direction of Coriano until a 'T' junction is reached. Turn left and after a short distance the Cemetery will be found on the right-hand side. The cemetery is permanently open and may be visited outside the working hours of the local gardening staff, but will be unmanned.
