March 9, 1922

Son of Joseph and Cecilia (née Bienker) Nowakowski (later shortened to Novak). He grew up in Hamilton, Ontario's North End. He was the brother of Sylvia, Louise, Chester and Daniel. The first school Hank attended was Holy Rosary, and from there he proceeded in 1934 to Cathedral High School. Hank excelled in all manner of sports and in all seasons, both on and off the school grounds - baseball, swimming, water polo, basketball, hockey, football, tennis, and the rugged sport known as lacrosse. Besides his family, he had also left behind somebody equally close, his fiancee, Jean Gilchrist of Windsor, Ontario.

Location:

Durnbach is a village 16 kilometres east of Bad Tolz, a town 48 kilometres south of Munich. Durnbach War Cemetery is 3 kilometres north of the village Gmund am Tegernsee. Using the A8 from Munich, turn off at the junction Holzkirchen, taking the 318 road in the direction of Gmund am Tegernsee. At the crossroads with the 472, turn left in the direction of Miesbach. The cemetery is situated approximately 500 metres on the left from the 318/472 crossroads.
