Brother of Private Ronald Rae, who died while serving with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and of Flight Sergeant John MacCauley Rae, who died while serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Montcornet is a small town in the Department of Aisne. It lies in a densely wooded and hilly area 22 miles north-east of Laon, at the junction of the N.377 road to Laon with the N.366 road to Vervins. The MONTCORNET MILITARY CEMETERY is adjacent to the Communal Cemetery on the southern outskirts of the town. It is on high ground above the road to the village of Lislet and is approached by a flight of stone steps.
