  • Grave marker– Marker at the grave of Floyd Victor Small in Harriston Cemetery, Harriston, Ontario. In November 1917, Driver F.V. Small, serving in France in No. 1 Reserve Park, Canadian Army Service Corps, was kicked in his left shin by a horse. A small lump, which gradually grew larger, appeared on the shin. Dvr Small eventually sought medical attention and was diagnosed with sarcoma, a type of cancer. He was hospitalized and evacuated to the United Kingdom, and in March 1918 most of his left leg was amputated. He was returned to Canada in late-September 1918. On May 6, 1919, following further treatment and care, he was medically discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He subsequently died of tuberculosis on October 27, 1919, on his family's farm (which was also his birthplace) at Lot 23, Concession 17, Minto Township - east of Clifford and NNW of Harriston - in Wellington County, Ontario.
