Newspaper clipping – Photo from The Red Deer Advocate 14 Mar 1945 Details of flight is found on //lostbombers.co.uk:- P/O Van Slyke was Pilot on Halifax #LW 721 in 158 (RAF) Sqdn. The aircraft was airborne 1850 24Mar44 from Lissett. Homebound, the aircraft was shot down by a Ju88 from 23,000 feet, crashing at Pausin some 28 km NW of Berlin. P/O Van Slyke maintained control of the aircraft long enough to allow his crew bail out. He went down with the aircraft. RCAF F/O A. R. McGillivray and F/S J. N. McDonagh along with RAF Sgts H. Ball and W. A. Grant were taken Prisoners of War. Killed were RAF Sgts. R. A. Whitelaw and K.D.Mardon-Mowbray.
